Mommy Makeover – Get your body back with the help of Dr Ash Dutta

Are you looking for mommy makeover but confused what this life-transforming surgery will give you, then this blog written by Dr Ash Dutta is only for you.

Becoming a mommy and raising your child is undoubtedly the most fulfilling experience in a woman’s life. The female body’s ability to carry and give birth to a child is one of life’s true miracles. However, pregnancy and childbirth puts a considerable strain on a woman’s body and takes a predictable yet distinctive toll and often leaves her with sagging breasts, loose abdominal skin, excess fat on the hips, buttocks, thighs, arms and stretch marks.

All this leads to a reduction in self-confidence and stress. But rather than bothering about your post-pregnancy body just give yourself a little attention to make motherhood a completely enjoyable experience.

Mommy Makeover

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 62% of mothers are seeking some sort of plastic surgery to help restore their pre-baby figures. The most common is actually a combination of procedures dubbed the ‘Mommy Makeover’.

A mommy makeover is not a single cosmetic surgical procedure, but rather a combination of aesthetic surgical and non-surgical treatments to reverse and correct the visible and unwanted effect of childbirth, breast-feeding and child rearing. The procedure involves different techniques as per the requirements of that particular woman which may include the following treatments:

Mommy makeover can include either one or all of these body contouring and skin rejuvenating procedures to treat different areas depending on your desired body shape.

  1. Abdomen Makeover-

    Abdomen Makeover

After pregnancy due to sudden and massive weight loss, the abdominal skin loses its elasticity resulting in a flabby stomach. To contour your full abdomen, abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) is a good option which involves the removal of excess skin, tightens the weakened muscles and can even eliminate stretch marks to a great extent especially those located below the navel. However, if you have loose hanging skin only around the lower abdomen, between the belly button and the pubis, then partial abdominoplasty (Mini tummy tuck) may also solve your problem which leaves a smaller scar and less downtime as compared to full abdominoplasty . If you have stubborn fat deposits in your abdomen, your surgeon can combine these surgeries with liposuction (either Laser lipo or Vaser lipo) to remove excess fat for a complete transformation. It is generally recommended that the abdomen makeover procedure be deferred until after the final pregnancy.

  1. Breast Makeover-

    Breast Makeover

Since breasts are an essential feminine feature for women, it is quite obvious to get worried about the shape and size of it. During pregnancy, your breasts usually swell to a fuller size and shape due to milk production. In some women, the breasts remain larger which may cause back-pain, neck pain, making women tired and look out of proportion. To make your breast in better proportion with your body, you can choose Breast reduction surgery (also called Reduction Mammaplasty) to reduce the size of your large and heavy breasts by removing  excess fat, tissue and skin from the breasts and reshape them. After a successful surgery the accompanying pain in your upper back, neck and shoulders may completely vanish.

Due to post pregnancy hormonal changes after breast-feeding, the breasts tend to flatten resulting in loss of volume of the breast in the upper half which makes the breasts loose, saggy and shapeless. Then Breast lift (with or without implants) surgery can restore the breast shape and volume. A breast lift (Mastopexy) involves trimming away excess skin and tissue from beneath the breast and repositioning them at a higher point on the chest and it may also lift the nipple to the right level to eliminate the sag. Another option is to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation/implants.  If a woman has lost too much breast volume after breast feeding, a breast lift with implants will return the breast to their optimal size and position. If a woman does not have sagging after breast-feeding and only desires replenished fullness, a breast implant will increase lost volume.

  1. Hips and thighs Makeover-

    Hips and Thighs Makeover

Unfortunately, after Pregnancy the woman’s body becomes more susceptible to accumulate fat in the most frustrating places such as hips/flanks, thighs and belly. To get rid off these stubborn fat deposits, you may choose to have Liposuction surgery either with Laser lipo or Vaser lipo. But with a small child around, invasive surgery may prove to be strenuous for any mom. We generally recommend minimally invasive and safer techniques such as Vaser liposuction for excess fat removal. The surgeon performing your mommy makeover will likely recommend liposuction of the hips and thighs at the same time as a tummy tuck. Liposuction is also effective in the chest, thighs, neck, upper arms and knees. But Liposuction isn’t recommended immediately after pregnancy you should wait for 4-6 months after delivery.

  1. Facial rejuvenation and enhancement-

    Facial Rejuvenation

During pregnancy, many women have glowing skin because of positive hormonal changes. However, post-natal hormonal fluctuations start to take a toll on your skin, the glow vanishes and your skin starts looking tired, dull and loose. But don’t fret over your weary skin as the mommy makeover procedure also includes a skin treatment plan to restore your pre pregnancy skin glow and contour. If you opt for the mommy makeover skin treatment plan, then you can choose the following non-surgical (non-invasive) facial  treatments to “glow back”.

Regardless of what treatments you desire or you may need, it is important to know that cosmetic procedures shortly after childbirth are very rarely recommended. Even with the most minimally-invasive methods, recovery time is necessary which is not always practical with a newborn baby. And likewise, after pregnancy, your body will change and some issues will reverse themselves. Thus the ideal time for a mommy makeover is four to six months after childbirth and an overall surgical should be considered once the patient has completed childbearing.

For breast makeover surgeries such as breast augmentation and breast lift, Dr Ash Dutta always recommends to wait until after you have stopped breast-feeding for at least 6 months. Waiting for this duration allows the breasts to stabilize in their final shape and size which is necessary for successful surgery. But for abdomen makeover surgeries we recommend to wait until you have completed your childbearing and have achieved stable weight, as the final result may not be as good if the tissues are stretched again with another pregnancy. If you are going for mommy makeover surgery shortly (at least six months) after childbirth it is better to choose a surgery with minimal downtime or recovery period, so you can resume normal “Mommy” activities. And even though in some cases recovery times do vary for procedures performed, our team works with you to customise your ‘makeover’ plans that meet your goals and works with your lifestyle.
